Bill has spent a lifetime in business, with a career in retail and franchising spanning Australia, the United Kingdom, China and Papua New Guinea. Bill has accumulated a wealth of experience and knowledge in this time but considers that he is still learning!
Bill’s background in retail – he held senior management positions with major retailers around the globe (John Lewis, David Jones, Coles Myer and Burns Philp) – has led to shopping centres, variety stores, hardware chains, small retailers and government institutions seeking his business advice.
Since moving into franchising in 2001, he has built upon his retail success, by working closely with many small business owners looking to grow through franchising.
Bill’s expertise covers a variety of disciplines, including, but not limited to:
- The creation of a franchise financial model for each business, forecasting the potential results for franchise and franchisor for a 5-year period. This is the essential decision-making tool to see whether franchising is the right way to grow.
- The development of a Strategic Franchise Plan, based on the financial model. This becomes the ‘blueprint’ for the franchise system. This plan documents the entire franchise system with a timetable for implementation. In addition, it forms the basis for the preparation of the legal documentation, the franchise operations manual and the franchise induction programme.
- The creation of the appropriate operational documentation in the form of a franchise manual.
- Preparation of recruitment procedures for acquiring franchises, including the marketing plan, processing of applicants and the processes to ensure that the franchises fit the profile of the ideal franchise for that business.
